Extortion Scam Alert: |
 |
 |
Oklahomans need to be aware of a telephone scam currently targeting cell phone users in which a caller from an unidentified number demands that you must "speak with a supervisor" to avoid criminal charges.
In cases reported, the caller has demanded that they deposit a large sum of money to avoid being prosecuted.
The FBI is aware of this scam and reported that as of October 29, 2009, 240 calls like this had been reported in just the last few days.
Please be aware that you never have to give out personal information over the phone when someone calls you and are strongly urged not to; even if you think the call is legit.
If you receive a phone call similar to the one described above, please contact the Oklahoma City FBI at (405) 290-7770.
